Can I appoint multiple or joint guardians?
The Safewill platform allows for the selection of one primary and one backup guardian, and not for the appointment of joint guardians. Guardian provisions will only come into effect if both parents pass away.
Why can I only select a singular guardian and not joint guardians?
While the desire to appoint multiple guardians, such as a couple, may seem intuitive, we take a singular approach for practical reasons. The primary consideration is the potential complexities that may arise if multiple guardians are appointed, particularly in the event of divorce.
What complexities arise in divorce scenarios?
If a couple is appointed as joint guardians and subsequently goes through a divorce, determining who should assume the responsibility of caring for the children can be a challenging and emotionally charged process. The singular guardian selection in Safewill aims to alleviate this potential difficulty by providing clarity and minimising the risk of disputes or uncertainties in the future.
