Our Family module allows you to appoint both a guardian and a backup guardian to care for your minor children when you pass away. Our Wills include a clause that any share of your estate or gifts to underage beneficiaries (including your children or any other underage beneficiary named) will be held on trust and they will inherit when they turn 18.
However, our Wills include a provision that any inheritance you leave to your children can be used by their guardian for your children’s care and maintenance. You can also include further guidance to your guardians about how funds are to be used to care for your children in your asset notes (although this guidance would be non-binding).
Alternatively, you may prefer to discuss your wishes with your chosen guardians in person, so they know what you want to occur should both parents pass away.
